How Tanganyika Minerals Ltd keeps its mineral supply chain conflict-free: ITSCI membership, OECD-aligned due diligence and the policies that bind our staff and suppliers.
Responsible sourcing of 3T minerals and the OECD five-step framework.
Read the policyTanganyika Minerals Ltd is a full participating member of ITSCI, the International Tin Supply Chain Initiative. ITSCI is the region’s internationally accepted, operational due diligence mechanism and mineral traceability system for the 3T minerals: tungsten, tin and tantalum. Pact leads its field implementation.
The system monitors minerals from the point of extraction at mine sites to smelters, where they are processed for use in electronics and other everyday devices. It allows tens of thousands of miners to earn a dignified living and build a better future for themselves and their families.
Mineral supply from Africa, including tantalum, is often reported only through its risks, so many people are unaware that the sector is closely controlled by local and international bodies. Our company’s policy and ethics have always been based on the following principle:
“Whatever is my right as a man is also the right of another; and it becomes my duty to guarantee as well as to possess.”
Thomas Paine, Rights of Man
Section 1502 of the US Dodd-Frank Act requires companies using gold, tin, tungsten and tantalum to determine whether those materials came from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) or an adjoining country and, if so, to carry out due diligence on their supply chain to determine whether their purchases fund armed groups in eastern DRC. The US Securities and Exchange Commission issued the final rule in August 2012; it requires companies to report publicly on their due diligence and to have their reports independently audited.
We share policy documents, ITSCI records and certificates with buyers and partners.
